See-Through Water Bloom Marvels Captivating Submerged Flora

In this body of work titled ‘Glass’ (dated 2011-ongoing), I explore a process that removes the pigment from the capillaries of flower petals, replacing the pigment with highly purified water leaving behind only the skeletal fibres and structural veins visible. Looking like an x-ray view through the flower detailing its framework and delicate structure as never seen before.

I believe it takes more courage to paint a simple landscape than it does to hang a side of beef in a gallery, this act of bravery is evident by the presentation of such an instantly recognisable subject and then to present it in an entirely new way. Originality is paramount even with something as common place as a rose.

The images presented here on the Underwater Image Library are low resolution to serve the web, however they were all produced on analogue film and presented ‘as shot’, without the use of post production. The originals film plates are incredibly rich and detailed, each is shot on either 6x6cm or 5x4 & 8x10 inch transparency film, scanned at high resolution with industry standard colour profiling applied.
